Mid Year Check-In and Reset: A Step-by-Step Guide

As we’ve crossed the halfway mark of the year, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown by. It feels like just yesterday we were setting our goals for the year, filled with high hopes and aspirations. Now that we’re halfway through, it’s time for a crucial midyear reset.

I have begun using my planner, writing down tasks, and scheduling time to tackle them.  I have also set a timer on my phone so that I can focus on what needs to be done without distraction.  Another way I use the timer on my phone is to signal when it is time to put it away.  We all know how easy it is to get distracted by our phones.  Using Google, looking for one informative post, or thinking you have 15 minutes to scroll, turns into scrolling for an hour or more.   This plan should include:

  • Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.
  • Detailed steps and milestones for each goal.
  • Deadlines and accountability mechanisms.
  • Contingency plans to address potential challenges.
  • A timeline for implementing your revised strategies.

Instead of solely relying on my phone’s calendar for appointment reminders, I’ve discovered the benefits of writing things down in a physical planner. It allows me to focus better, enhance my creativity, and break down tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. While electronic tools like Google Calendar, Notion, Notes, Microsoft Notes, Zapier, and Google Docs can be efficient for some, I find that the act of handwriting helps me stay organized and retain information more effectively.
