SPIRITUAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS

When we tend to our spiritual health we are fortified and prepared to take necessary leap of faith from time to time. The desire to renew your faith often comes when you are making changes in your life.  

With the strength and knowledge we gain in the process of tending to our spiritual health we are able to deal with the ups and downs of life and maintain our peace and joy. 

The most effective way to grow in any area is to develop a routine.  Block out time to devote to your spiritual health.  Many people find it easier to read, pray, have personal bible study, etc in the mornings before jumping into the demands of the day.  Your schedule may allow for a mid-day praise break.  Or you may decide to take that time at the end of the day when the kids are in bed and everyone has gone to their own spaces.

Whenever the time is right for you…..develop a routine and be consistent.  

If your routine begins in the morning, giving God your first moments of the day before life’s demands consume your time, devotionals are great resources.  They often give us a question or thought to take with us throughout the day to answer or ponder. 

One of my favorite books to read in the morning is Commanding Your Morning by Cindy Trimm.  She includes numerous affirmations in the back of the book that I go to on a regular basis.

From time to time I have a midday praise break even if I devoted time in the morning.  Depending on how much time I have my activities vary.  I may spend 15 to 20 minutes listening to gospel music.  Even the playlist varies according to my needs that day.  

When I have time and something is really weighing me down, I have a “full session”.  I start with a song that is on my heart, pray and read relevant scriptures or read from a book that is feeding me on the subject.  The peace I come away with is immeasurable.

We all have “one of those days” from time to time.  It is fulfilling to end those days or any day feeding into our souls.  Reading, praying and meditating at night often brings about the best sleep.  We’ve given our cares of the day over and don’t have to be weighed down.

It doesn’t matter what time of the day you choose or how many times in a day you choose, the important part is to spend time daily on your spiritual wellness.  

There are many great resources available that can help you on your journey.  I still love having a book that I can pull off of the bookcase, but I also utilize the convenience of online sources.

One of my favorite Apps is the YouVersion bible app.  It is 100% free and it is global, available for iPhone/iPad, Android and Kindle Fire.   You have the benefit of choosing the version of the bible, whether you prefer the King James or NIV.  You can use the highlight, bookmark, audio and notes options to personalize your reading and study experience.

I have to say, one of my favorite features are the reading plans.  They are set up similarly to that of a daily devotional.  The various plans include topics like, finding purpose, marriage, hearing from God and so much more.

I have found that some resources will lead you to others and as you grow and your life changes, that’s a good thing.  We are not meant to stay stuck on or dwell on the same issues indefinitely.  We have to do our part.

The gift of every new day is that there is a new opportunity to grow and be better in every aspect of our lives.
