The Power of a Reset: Fulfill Your Destiny
Achieve the life you were meant to live.
Many of us have had days where we look at our lives and wonder how we got to where we are. We ask ourselves, “how did I get here? What did I do or what didn’t I do to get to where I wanted to be or where I thought I should/would be at this point in my life?”
I’ve been there. I am there. The one thing I do know and want to remind you, is that everyday is a gift. God is giving us another chance, more grace to receive the desires of our hearts.
I’m going to give you some practical tips to do a reset. It’s not too late to be the woman you were meant to be. We are going to work together and encourage each other along the way.
I want to present some questions to you. Write the questions down. Take some time to really think about the questions. Then, write down the answers.
It’s time to get started….
Let’s begin with “Knowing Your Why”. “Knowing your ‘Why’ ‘ means to understand why you do the things you do. What is it that motivates you each day? What is it that you want deep in your heart and soul?
Who do you want to be? When you close your eyes, there are no distractions, you take some deep breaths and relax…..Where do you see yourself? What do you imagine? Do you see yourself somewhere other than where you are? If that is the case, it’s okay. We are going to move beyond together.
Now that you’ve answered the questions of knowing your why and where you want to be, we have to determine what we need to do next. What steps do I need to take to be that woman? Do I need to get up earlier to devote time to a project I’ve wanted to do, spend time with God and meditate before I go to work? For some of us, it may be simple tasks like putting down our phones or setting a timer when we go on social media. For others, it may be carving out time in our day to exercise or taking a class. Do I need to change my eating habits?
This next question requires being honest with ourselves. What behavior do I need to change? If you are wanting to live a healthier lifestyle, does that mean I need to stop smoking? Do I need to change my surroundings? Am I allowing the negativity of others to seep into my spirit? Those are just a few examples of questions you may need to answer. Everyone will have their own.
Now that we have a starting place, the answers to those questions will guide us. As I said before, everyone will have different answers to the questions posed, but we can still go on this journey together.
My first tip is to stop procrastinating. You know there has been a tug on your heart for quite some time. Listen to it. Are you running from that thing God placed in your heart years ago? It’s time to do what you need to do even when you don’t feel like it.
Wake up 30 minutes before you normally get up. Take that time to have a peaceful moment before you jump into the business of the day. DO NOT PICK UP YOUR PHONE AS SOON AS YOU WAKE UP!!! If you use the alarm on your phone to wake you up, consider buying an old fashioned alarm clock. Picking up your phone as soon as you get up to scroll on social media platforms can negatively affect your day without you realizing it. You may start scrolling only to see some bad news, see an article that is upsetting or take up more time than you intended.
Allow yourself some time to step outside and get some sunshine on your face, do some easy stretches, take some deep breaths, read some scriptures, and speak affirmations aloud. After that you will find that you are able to cope with what life throws at you next much better.
When you answer the questions regarding the steps you need to take to be the woman of your dreams, depending on the number of steps you need to take, try working on one thing at a time. For example, if one thing you need to do is work on your eating habits, try removing one bad thing from your diet and replacing it with something good. Instead of reaching for your coffee first, drink a glass of water while you are fixing your coffee.
Do this for one to two weeks before introducing something else. After you’ve had a couple of weeks of being consistent with the first step you can move to the next. Maybe you aren’t getting in enough water. You’ve already introduced starting your day with a glass of water before coffee. The next step could be setting a timer for every two hours as a reminder to drink more water.
The important thing about doing a reset is to not overwhelm yourself. Along the way, you have to learn to give yourself some grace. We are not perfect, although we strive to be.
Moving on to behaviors that we need to change. Being honest, procrastination is my biggest obstacle. I have to remind myself daily, sometimes multiple times in a day to JUST DO IT! Do whatever it is that needs to be done even when I don’t feel like it
. I need to get up early to have my quiet time to pray, read my devotional and bible. I also want to put something on my stomach before work. Some mornings I struggle to let the bed go because I am still sleepy. The first behavior I need to change is scrolling on my phone or watching videos at night. I am going to go to bed at a reasonable time so that I can get up in the morning to do what I need to do.
If you have behaviors that you need help with, don’t hesitate to get the help that you need. Most jobs have an EAP program or offer mental health benefits. If you are struggling to stop smoking, drinking or struggling to heal from some sort of trauma, please seek assistance. There is nothing to be ashamed of. If you know you need help, that is the first step in changing your life.
According to https://www.mindtools.com/ Procrastination is often confused with laziness, but they are very different.
Procrastination is an active process – you choose to do something else instead of the task that you know you should be doing. In contrast, laziness suggests apathy, inactivity and an unwillingness to act.
They suggest working out why you are procrastinating. Are you afraid of failure, success or not being perfect?
It’s time to focus on that thing that needs to be done. Commit to that task. Let’s do it!
Everyday is a chance for a fresh start, a chance to reset. If there is something that you didn’t do yesterday that you knew you should have….Do it today! Forgive yourself for your shortcomings and put one foot in front of the other today.
Make a commitment to yourself today.
Commit to making one change per week until you see your goal in sight. Think about the fact that God didn’t create everything in one day and you are not going to snap your fingers and reach your goal in one day either.
This week I am going to commit to waking up early for my quiet time with God. Remember, we are not perfect and that is okay. We are a work in progress.
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put o the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24.
What are you going to do this week to put you on the path to being “That Woman”? Share your journey with a friend that may also be in need of a reset. Let’s talk and encourage each other on Facebook at Ingrid’s Inspiration. https://bit.ly/3Wn4Bhq
